The quote is considered a new art form of postmodernity (from the end of the Cold War, 1989) and has become a feature of postmodern aesthetics. Quotation is a typical symbol of communication of our time, a kind of phenomenon of the zeitgeist. When quoting artistically, the word and / or image of another artist is adopted, alienated, reinterpreted. The quote is often a homage, a dedication and ideally a successful artistic dialogue in silence.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Banksy …
»Copyright is for Losers«, says the world-famous street artist Banksy. DENKSTAHL answers him by double quoting him; in words and pictures. The popular Banksy motif »Girl With Balloon« has received a different title, and in the original Banksy work the girl flies a red balloon.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Michelangelo …
The painter, sculptor, architect and poet Michelangelo (1475-1564) was one of the most important artists of the Italian High Renaissance. His monumental murals in the Sistine Chapel show biblical scenes of creation and the life of Jesus. DENKSTAHL quotes »The Creation of Adam«, which is an excerpt of the ceiling fresco, often reproduced in the form of prints and consists of nine individual frescoes.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Leonardo da Vinci …
The »Mona Lisa« by the universal genius Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519) is one of the best known and most popular portraits worldwide. DENKSTAHL gives her a new Louis Vuitton robe and lets her appear in front of the Eiffel Tower, which symbolically represents the male counterpart to the female icon Mona Lisa for the French culture. DENKSTAHL turns the most expensive painting in the world »Salvator Mundi« into »The Most Expensive Virus of All Time«.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Pablo Picasso …
In 1955, the Spanish graphic artist, painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) received World Peace Prize for his lithograph of the white dove. The white dove is a symbol of peace and of the peacemaker and is widely represented in contemporary art, as well as in the works of Banksy and DENKSTAHL. In the DENKSTAHL portrait called »Guernica«, dedicated to Picasso, he lets a white and a black dove fly. By engaging themselves intensely with the issues of war and peace, both artists will always be closely connected.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Vincent Van Gogh …
Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) is considered as one of the founders of modern painting. His post-impressionist style had a great influence on the subsequent style of Expressionism. It will always remain a historical oddity whether the story of Van Gogh’s lost ear was self-inflicted or a third-party injury. Whether he really cut off his left ear in his madness or he was the victim of a criminal act – DENKSTAHL gives him his ear back.e
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Allesandro Varotari …
The Italian painter Allesandro Varotari (1588-1649) lived as an artist in the transition period between the Renaissance and the Baroque. He always advocated for his own individual style, which is historically referred to as mannerism. The woman in red is in a DENKSTAHL style against the background of a Varotari work.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Henrik Olrik …
Detail of an altarpiece by Henrik Olrik (1830-1890) in the St. Matthäuskirche in Copenhagen / Denmark, by Denkstahl combined with the Silver Surfer from the Marvel Comic. Same, same, but different.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Carl Bloch …
The Sermon On The Mount, a biblical quotation, a historical message, picturesquely illustrated by numerous artists. The original version of the painting by the Danish painter Carl Bloch (1834-1890) shows the »Sermon on the Mount« with Jesus teaching Jesus, symbolically conveying the core values of being human. It is not about Christianity, it is only about the relationship of man to God and the world. With DENKSTAHL, Jesus is still standing and preaching, 2500 years later, but almost exactly as it was then.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Marc Chagall …
Marc Chagall (1887-1985), the painter of Expressionism, is also called the painter-poet. »White Crucifixion« is one of his most famous works; Jesus crucified in the midst of unrest, surrounded by burning villages and books, by boat refugees, doubt, desolation, doom and gloom. And a ladder to the kingdom of heaven. DENKSTAHL reinterprets the White Crucifixion. The Jesus of our time is in the middle of unrest, surrounded by burning towers, birds out of hand grenades, the child, the peace dove, a fighter plane, rockets, the barbed wire, a mushroom cloud, the unsatisfied battle between heart and mind.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Andy Warhol …
Pop artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987) loved repetition and reuse. He was the pioneer who established screen printing as a method of making works of art. His first series of screen prints was the reproduction of the famous the Campbell’s Soup Can graphic. Reused here by DENKSTAHL; for the first time, this much-quoted can is open, and it is not about tomato soup, but the soup of truth.
We opened it, Pandora’s Box.
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Edward Hopper …
The American realist Edward Hopper (1882-1967) deals with the emptiness and loneliness of the modern man in his pictures – here spun and updated by DENKSTAHL. Is alienation and isolation the imperative downside of civilization and technological progress? In other words: Where do we come from? And where are we going?
Denkstahl’s Tribute To Oliviero Toscani & United Colors Of Benetton …
Advertising communication was renewed in the 80s and 90s when the Italian textile and fashion company United Colors Of Benetton, in collaboration with the photographer Oliviero Toscani, launched an unusual image campaign, dealing with the topics of racism, discrimination, war, disease, exploitation, death penalty, child labor, pollution, unemployment, poverty on large advertising posters. »United Colors Of Denkstahl« is a tribute and a reminder of this successful campaign.
Quote is a quote is a quote is a quote …
